A friend recently came to me moaning about someone in their life. He went on for some time and then said, 'so, what do you think?' I thought for a while and then told him this story...
A wife and husband lived in a house and one day a new family moved in across the street. Every morning the woman across the street would hang out her washing. The wife would look at the woman across the street and say to her husband how dirty her washing was and how could she possibly hang it out looking like that? This went on for many mornings with the wife complaining about how dirty the woman's washing was and how bad it was. One morning the wife looked across the street and noticed the washing was clean. She commented on this to her husband who told her he had got up early that morning and cleaned their windows.
When I finished telling my friend the story he was silent for quite a while. I would like to think he was digesting what I had said and how it might apply to him and his situation. I guess he was because finally he looked at me and said 'you are so annoying sometimes, do you know that?'
So my response this time was to refer him back to the story and my original point! This time he laughed. Then we hugged and made lunch together.
This story is not mine, I read it somewhere online and thought I would share it. If I knew who the story came from I would credit them. So if you know, thank them for me for helping me put my imagined issues with others into perspective.
Blessings to you, Carole
