Below is a brief introduction to encourage you to learn more about Reiki and/or treat yourself to a Reiki session.
(Pronounced Ray-Key) Reiki is a Japanese therapy used to help with stress reduction, relaxation and promote healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and all of life. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". I experience Reiki as "divine life force energy."
A treatment would involve you relaxing on a massage table or sitting in a chair, fully clothed using blankets and pillows for comfort. The practitioner holds their hands close to or on the body as appropriate, moving through the various hand positions. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing. It has been effective in helping most illnesses. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. So how does it work? All living things have an electromagnetic field, sometimes called an aura. A healthy body vibrates at a higher rate than an unhealthy body. Reiki energy is channelled into the body at the correct frequency to treat particular discomforts and to restore the body to it's optimum vibration so you can enjoy perfect, vibrant, radiant health.
Reiki has been offered by the NHS for several years now. Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy are offered Reiki sessions. I have provided treatments for people with cancer and some of them were rather sceptical at first. I did not try to convince them of the benefits Reiki can provide but preferred to let them discover for themselves. After a few sessions I was often told how much better they felt after a treatment, that they slept better and responded much better to chemotherapy and experienced fewer side effects. There were a few weeks when one client had to miss a Reiki session and it was their husband who remarked upon the very obvious difference in his wife on the weeks she received Reiki compared to those weeks when she had missed a session. He was a huge skeptic and told me that although he wasn't into 'all that stuff' it was very obvious Reiki was a great comfort to his wife and it made a huge difference to her wellbeing.
Reiki has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. Reiki is a very simple technique to learn. The Reiki symbols are transferred during a Reiki course/class, called an "attunement". The attunement enable the receiver to tap into the unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve health and wellbeing. We can all tap into this energy at any time. The Reiki attunement enables the practitioner to channel a stronger flow of the energy. Learning Reiki enables the practitioner to help themselves, friends and family and even plants and pets.
